Bulldogs Take First in 16 Events Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel's track and field teams competed in the CSU-Citadel Tune-Up hosted by Charleston Southern on Wednesday. The Bulldogs combined for 16 victories and seven top-ten school record performances.
For the men's team, junior Charlie Hatler captured first place in the javelin throw with a toss of 56.60 meters. Hatler bested the rest of the field by seven meters. Junior Josiah Johnson won the 100-meter race with a new personal best of 10.55 seconds. In photo-finish fashion, Malik Diggs finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.34, a new season best. Diggs is currently ranked No. 1 in the SoCon in the 110-meter hurdles heading into the SoCon Championships. Senior Jamie Cunningham finished first in the 1500-meter race, clocking in three seconds short of his all-time best with a time of 4:03.55.
For the women's team, sophomore Jessy Page took first place in the discus with a toss of 42.89m and Mady Riegel secured first place in the javelin with a heave of 40.22 meters. Casey Miller set a new personal record in the 1500-meter race with a time of 5:12.61, taking second place following an unattached runner.

Wednesday's meet was the final regular-season competition before the Bulldogs head to the 2018 SoCon Outdoor Championships in Cullowhee, North Carolina, May 10-11.
