The Bulldogs showed heart but could not pull out a win in their match against the College of Charleston Cougars Tuesday night. The atmosphere during all three games in McAlister Field House was that of excitement as the cross-town rivals brought their fans for support.
Stephanie Ballard led the College of Charleston offense and in only two games, tallied 13 kills and 17 digs for the Cougars. Teammate Alisa Long added to the offense with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .391.
The Citadel kept the score close in the first two games but could not find an answer to the Cougars hard- hitting tandem of Ballard and Long.
Senior outside hitter Nicole Mantu led the Bulldog charge with 14 kills, 21 digs and a service ace. Junior Lindsey Hodge and freshman Samantha Parisi contributed with six kills each. Parisi also had 16 digs in the match.
The conference match takes the Cougars to 8-2 in the SoCon, while the Bulldogs drop to 0-10. The Citadel resumes action in Statesboro, GA on October 22, where they will compete against the Eagles of Georgia Southern.
