THE DAWG POUND...
The "Dawg Pound," as it is affectionately known, is a place The Citadel Athletic Department takes great pride in on campus. With a 5,500 square foot space for all varsity athletes, it is one of the top facilities in the Southern Conference. The Dawg Pound is a place where Bulldog athletes can work hard and reach their athletic potential.
The "Dawg Pound" is overseen by Director of Strength and Conditioning Joe Varga. Varga is also responsible for the football team's strength and conditioning programming and runs a system built around functional movement, speed, explosiveness and athleticism.
Each athlete is closely monitored during their time at The Citadel, and all accomplishments such as body weight, bench press, squat, power clean, 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and 60-yard shuttle, are measured annually and compared to the previous year, proving measurable success.
Outfitted with Power Lift and Sorinex racks, Rogue bumper plates, Elite FTS Prowlers and countless other devices, the strength and conditioning staff is always finding new ways to maximize training by keeping workouts fresh and challenging for the athletes.
