The Bulldog tennis team competed in the Davidson/Jim Causey Fall Classic over the past weekend in Davidson, North Carolina.
Also playing in the tournament were Appalachian State, Davidson, and UNC Greensboro.
The Citadel went up against a tough Appalachian State squad and won twice in singles and doubles action. Matt Stubbs and David Munoz were the only two Bulldogs who won in singles, with Stubbs winning 6-1, 6-4 and Munoz putting up a victory with game scores of 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Against Davidson, The Citadel posted two wins in singles matches and one in doubles. John Williams was impressive as he won in singles 6-1, 6-4. Coupled with Stubbs, Williams went on to also win at doubles posting a score of 6-8.
The Citadel played well against UNC Greensboro as they bounced back from tough matches against Davidson and Appalachian State to sweep UNCG in singles on the last day in the tournament.
"We competed hard in all our matches," stated head coach Toby Simpson. "We improved individually and as a team this past weekend."
The Bulldogs will play in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the Omni Hotels-ITA-Regionals on October 23, 2002, at 9:00am.
