Bulldogs Prepare For Wofford

Oct. 28, 2002

Charleston, SC - Coach Ellis Johnson spoke Monday at the weekly press luncheon about the loss to Georgia Southern University and the upcoming game against Wofford.

"I'm pleased with the effort of our players," stated Jonhson. "We had a good week of preparation and we played hard."

The Citadel was ahead for three quarters, but eventually fell to the Eagles 28-24. Long passes by GSU, coupled with a dissapointing kicking effort by the Bulldogs, helped seal the win for GSU.

"Williams' long passes were huge," commented Johnson. "Dropped balls at the end of the game also hurt us."

Eventhough The Citadel was denied a win versus GSU, Coach Johnson stated that "we will build on the loss and move forward." The Bulldogs look to this coming weekend as they take on a strong Wofford squad.

"Wofford has a solid team with a steady quarterback," said Johnson. "I have great respect for their program."

Johnson labeled Wofford as a "formitable foe," because of their steady play and desire to improve their season, which has accumulated six wins and only two losses.

Johnson pinpointed Wofford's winning ways to their ability to give up very few points. Wofford runs the ball more often than not, but also has the talent to throw the deep ball.

The Bulldogs take on Wofford this coming weekend at Gibbs Statium in Spartanburg, SC at 1:30pm.
