Women's Cross Country Looks Towards Improvement

Nov. 20, 2002

The women finished their season with the Southern Conference championships in Charleston and hosted by the College of Charleston.

With the loss of last year's top two finishers in the conference championships, the women's team was very young this year that featured only one senior and one junior. Due to other commitments, both Manda Orson and Viann Bolick were unavailable for the second half of the season. The workload fell to sophomores Olivia Perry-Smith and Laura Gisinger, and with the help of freshmen Kasey White and Steffanie Snyder, the ladies showed improvement each week. All four were able to run their personal best times for the year at the conference meet. Catrina Moore, who is a member of The Citadel's track team and team captain, was pressed into service for the conference championships and did a splendid job.

The women's team hopes for an improved performance next year as Coach Huddleston has already signed one lady during the early signing period. She is the first athlete, male or female, which the Bulldogs have signed during the early period in the past 20 years.
