Citadel Wrestling Inks Two

Nov. 21, 2002

Charleston, SC - The Citadel wrestling coach Rob Hjerling announced the signing of two wrestlers to add depth in his lineup at the 133/141 and 165-pound weight classes.

"Citadel wrestling is very happy to get two wrestlers of this caliber," commented head coach Rob Hjerling. "These are two great young men that should thrive in The Citadel environment."

165-pound Clint DeGain hails from Whitelake, MI and Clarkston High. DeGain is a nationally ranked recruit, rated the third best 160-pounder in the country by Intermat wrestling. He has compiled a career record of 107-5. DeGain earned Michigan State Champion honors as a junior. Prior to an injury he sustained as a sophomore DeGain finished as State Runner-up as a freshman.

"Clint comes from a first-rate wrestling family," added coach Hjerling.

DeGain's other accomplishments include being named a 2000 Cadet Greco National All-American, a 1999 Cadet Freestyle National All-American and a 1998 AAU world Champion.

Ian McGoldrick (133/141) will be coming to The Citadel from Brodheadsville, PA home of Pleasant Valley High. He tallied an astonishing career record of 57-6.

"Ian is top wrestler on the rise," added coach Hjerling.

McGoldrick is a 2000 Junior Greco National All-American and a 1999 AAU Junior Olympic Champion.

"These young men add strong depth at key weight classes for our program," stated coach Hjerling. "Both Clint and Ian could make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs."
