The Citadel Falls to Appalachian State

Boone, NC - The Appalachian volleyball team defeated The Citadel 3-0 (30-22, 30-14, 30-20) in action at the Holmes Center. With the win,Appalachian sweeps the season series.

Appalachian was led by Kali Rumberger (Spokane, Wash.), who registereda career high 21 kills. Katherine Dean (Clemson, S.C.) recorded a soloblock and five block assists.

The Mountaineers jumped to an early lead at 10-3. The Bulldogs battled back with the help of Nicole Mantu, who had four kills, to get within three at 21-18. The Mountaineers regained the momentum and pulled away to win the game.

The Citadel started game two with an early lead. The lead would not lastlong as Appalachian went ahead 7-5. After a time-out, ASU continued the offensive attack by outscoring The Citadel 12-4 to put the game out of reach.

Rumberger led the way with six kills, and Chrissy Finch (Lake Zurich, Ill.) notched five kills.

The Mountaineers took an early 7-1 lead to begin game three. Samantha Parisi scored four kills in the game to lead the Bulldogs; however, they could not overcome a 10-point deficit as the Mountaineers won the game and the match.

The Citadel was led by Samantha Parisi and Nicole Mantu, who each had eight kills. Katie Livingston contributed with 23 assists. Amber Davis registered two service aces.

Appalachian hosts Davidson on Nov. 15. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Holmes Center. The Citadel proceeds to Joihnson City to compete against ETSU at 2:00pm.
