GSU downs The Citadel, 6-1

September 12, 2002

The Citadel loses their fourth straight game to Georgia Southern, 6-1. Both teams moved the ball well, but the Bulldogs came up short in the end. GSU head coach Tom Norton seemed surprised at The Citadel's efforts.

"The Citadel was impressive," stated GSU head coach Tom Norton. "They moved across the field and passed the ball well."

With six goals scored by four players, Norton's team was passing the ball well, too. Amanda Bernard and Christie Grisaffe both had two goals, while teammates Jackie Kensey and Katie Szeghalmi contributed a goal each.

"It feels good to score a few goals," continued Norton. "We haven't been shooting much at all lately."

Although The Citadel only scored one goal, it was the second consecutive goal scored by a freshman on the team. Lauren Merchant shot her first collegiate goal following teammate Miriam Crawford, who shot her first on Tuesday in the game against The College of Charleston.

"All the freshman show up ready to play, daily," boasted Citadel head coach Megan Hjerling. "They have scored all of our goals for the season and have proved to be consistent: They are the future of this team."

The Bulldogs are back in action on September 17 at Converse College.
