September 28, 2002

The Citadel (2-5-1) defeated Southern Virginia (6-3), 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Summerall Field. Lauren Merchant who posted two goals on the day led the Bulldogs.

Merchant scored her first goal five minutes into the match with a little help from Rose Rodriguez and Kelly Pesterfield. Southern Virginia's Liz Bates knotted the score at 1-1 at the :25 minute mark. The Citadel's Julie Austin answered finding the back of the net with an assist coming from the foot of Sydney LaQuey right before the half.

In the second half, Merchant again led the Bulldog offense scoring from five yards out. The Knight's Bates strived to send it into overtime but could only make up one goal that came with only a minute to go in the match.
