Charleston, SC - Five Citadel tennis players, along with other student athletes, were recognized for their academic achievement at half time of last week's football game against Appalachian State.

Senior co-captains Matt Stubbs and John Williams, as well as sophomores David Lara, Nick Medica and former player junior Sebastian Padron were acknowledged as International Tennis Association Academic All-American award winners, an honor that requires at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Each of the players were also named to the Southern Conference Commissioner Honor Roll for having at least a 3.2 GPA and the tennis team as a whole was recognized as being the highest academically ranked athletic team on the campus, with a team GPA of 3.56

"It's an honor to be recognized," coach Toby Simpson said. "This just shows that these players are true student athletes. They work hard in the classroom and on the court."
