No. 5 Wofford forced six turnovers en route to a Southern Conference title clinching 42-16 victory over No. 25 The Citadel in football action, Saturday afternoon in front of 20,683 Bulldog faithful in Johnson Hagood Stadium.
"Winning the first SoCon championship for Wofford is a very special feeling. It's awesome and I thank God for a tremendous group of kids on our team," Wofford head coach Mike Ayers stated. "Nobody thought we could get this done except for the kids in our locker room."
Wofford (8-1, 6-0 SoCon) opened the scoring at the 7:45 mark in the first quarter as quarterback Jeff Zolman bulled over the goal line from one yard out to cap off a five-play, 19-yard drive that lasted 1:58. The Terriers recovered a Citadel fumble on their own 19-yard line.
