The Citadel Lands Lowcountry Standout Demetrius Nelson on National Signing Day

Charleston, SC - Citadel basketball coach Pat Dennis announced Wednesday morning that Lowcountry standout Demetrius Nelson signed a national letter of intent to play for the Bulldogs.

"Demetrius is an outstanding recruit for our program," Dennis stated. "He possesses all of the qualities needed to be a successful player at the college level. He has great size, athleticism and toughness that we are looking for in a big-man."

Nelson, a student at St. John's High School is a 6-8, 240-pound post player that has the ability to control the paint. During his junior season for the Islanders he averaged 19.8 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.

"Demetrius comes from a well coached and winning program at St. John's under coach Antoine Saunders," Dennis continued. "There is no doubt in my mind that Demetrius will have an immediate impact on our basketball program."

Nelson led the Islanders to a 23-6 record and the Class AA Lower State championship game. He has garnered all-region honors twice and was named co-MVP of his team as a junior.
