Charlotte, NC -
Citadel football coach Ellis Johnson wasn't worried Saturday about replacing Nehemiah Broughton, the Bulldogs' leading rusher who is out for the season with a knee injury.
He was worried about replacing Ern Mills.
"Ernie was our best back in the spring, he was our best back in preseason and in the first couple of games," Johnson said. "I wasn't as concerned about Ernie filling the shoes of Nemo as I was about finding somebody to help him fill the shoes, and get some time off the field. And I thought Chris Gibbs did a great job of that."
The tailback rotation of Mills and Gibbs was every bit as effective as that of Broughton and Mills had been, as the two juniors combined for 204 yards on 48 carries in a 27-23 victory over Virginia Military Institute.
