Charleston, SC -
Former Bulldog third baseman Dallas McPherson, who was drafted in the second round of the 2001 amateur baseball draft by the Anaheim Angels, was named to the Angels 40-man roster on November 20.
The Angels informed the Randleman, NC native, by telephone the day before the roster was made public. McPherson said that the only off-season responsibility he has before reporting to Spring Training is to attend Major League Baseball's Rookie Convention in January, which is held in Washington, D.C.
"This is a very exciting time for my family and I," stated McPherson. "I have worked hard to get where I am and I know I am going to have to work even harder to stay on the roster and make the big league club."
Earlier this fall, McPherson was tabbed as the fourth best third baseman prospect in all of professional baseball by Baseball America. According to Baseball America, "McPherson blossomed at the low Class A level," while hitting for an average of .280 with 14 homeruns and 84 RBI for the Cedar Rapid Kernels of the Midwest League.
"It is very thrilling to have one of your former players make it professionally," Citadel baseball coach Fred Jordan exclaimed. "Dallas' hard work and dedication to the game is what got him to where he is today. Everyone involved with The Citadel family hopes that he has a long and prosperous professional career."
McPherson just completed a stint in the Arizona Fall League where he was hand picked to participate in the instructional league.
