Bulldogs Blast Gamecocks, 6-1

Charleston, SC - The Citadel tennis program claimed a victory over the visiting Jacksonville State team, 6-1, on Valentines Day afternoon, February 14th at the Citadel's Donald C. Bunch Courts at the Earle Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs (5-3) nearly swept the visiting Gamecocks (2-3), playing extremely tough in singles play. In the number one seed, The Citadel's Matt Stubbs defeated Ruben Herrera, 6-0, 6-1. Followed by John Williams ousting Arthuro Nieto, 6-1, 6-1. The Bulldog's Nick Medica closed out the afternoon's festivities by out hustling Gamecock's Christian Rybertt, 6-3, 6-3. In doubles play, The Citadel took two of the three matches, 8-5 in the number one seed, Stubbs/Williams complemented with Medica/Lawrence Tere wining the match in the number three seed, 8-3.

The Bulldogs next match will be at 1p.m. against cross-town rival, College of Charleston, on Wednesday, February 26th. The contests are held at The Citadel's Donald C. Bunch Courts at the Earle Tennis Center, all The Citadel fans are encouraged to wear blue when they come and cheer on their Bulldogs.
