The Citadel tennis team took time from their day to help at the annual Iron Kids Triathlon, Friday, April 4, which was held on The Citadel's campus.
Iron Kid youngsters raging in age from 7-14, came from all over the county to compete in a triathlon that promotes self-confidence, physical fitness and a positive attitude. Each participant swam 200m, cycled 10km and then ran 2km. The competition is divided between boys and girls and then by age, while they can also pair up to form relay teams as well.
"This was a great opportunity to give back to our community," commented Toby Simpson. "It really brighten my day to see the youngsters having so much fun out there."
This is the second consecutive year the Iron Kids have visited The Citadel to hold a competition. This event was part of a larger national circuit sponsored by Sara Lee bakery Group.
The Citadel tennis team will return to action on the road, starting with a double header in Greensboro, NC, on the afternoon of April 11. At 1 pm the Bulldogs will attack UNC Greensboro Spartans, and then take on NC A&T in the nightcap beginning at 6pm. The Citadel's season will be complete the following day when they play the Wildcats of Davidson on April 12 at 2pm.
