The Southern Conference announced today its men's tennis players-of-the Week for April 15. The Citadel's Warren Woolfolk earned the honor.
A freshman from Columbus, GA, Woolfolk helped The Citadel to two conference wins last week at #6 singles and a #8 seed in the conference championships. He started the week with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Davidson's Russ Burns on April 12. The win gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 win over Davidson. Wollfolk then picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over UNCG's Eric Johnson en route to The Citadel's 6-1 win over the Spartans on April 13. He has a 14-9 record overall, 7-2 in leaguematches.
"Warren has played tremendously through out the entire season," proclaimed head coach Toby Simpson. "This honor is a testament to his capabilities and I congratulate him for his success."
The Citadel will begin tournament play Davidson this afternoon, April 03, at 1 pm at the City of Charleston Tennis Center on Farmfield Road against.
The Citadel is hosting the Southern Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships in April beginning today through 19th. Matches will take place at the Donald C. Bunch Courts at the Earle Tennis Center on The Citadel's campus and at the City of Charleston Tennis Center on Farmfield Road.
The Bulldogs have played host to the Southern Conference Tournament in 1961, 1975, 1982 and 2001 and 2002, while winning the school's only conference tennis championship in 1961.
