Appalachian State used Friday to gain the edge as they host the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at a very waterlogged Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, NC.

Alex Prince and J.T. Marbury qualified for Saturday's 400m final with times of 48.25 and 49.15 respectively. Thomas Cummings will represent the Bulldogs in the 400-meter hurdles as he qualified with a 55.60.

Bernardo Richardson tossed the hammer 40.08m with teammate Erick Austin just behind in tenth-place with a 38.68m throw. In decathlon action, Travis Taylor took first-place in the high jump (6.09m) and long jump (1.87m), and earned second with a 10.28m shot put.

The Southern Conference Outdoor Championships will conclude with the finals Saturday, April 19.
