Charleston, SC - The Citadel defeated Southern Conference foe Wofford, in tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Donald C. Bunch Courts, 4-3, to claim their first conference win of the season.

The Bulldogs (8-13, 1-6) played extremely well in double matches against the visiting Terriers (5-5, 2-2), wining all possible three points. In doubles play, The Citadel's Matt Stubbs / John Williams defeated Kent Ball / Lee Porter, 9-7. The number two seed, David Lara / Warren Woolfolk defeated Wofford's Jason Mengel / Brandon Smith, 9-7. In the final match of doubles play, the Bulldog's Nick Medica / Lawrence Tere out hit Chris Barlow / Brett Johnson, 8-5.

In singles play, the number one seed, Stubbs of The Citadel defeated Ball, 7-6, 6-3. In the number two spot, Porter from Wofford claimed victory over Williams, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. The Terriers won the third seed by the play of Smith against Medica, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. The Citadel's Tere, played tough in the fourth seed, claiming victory in his final home regular season appearance by defeating Johnson, 6-3, 6-1. In the fifth seed, Lara from The Citadel fell to Barlow, 7-6, 6-1. The day's matches were complete in the sixth seed by the play of The Citadel's Woolfolk when he defeated Mengel, 6-1, 6-1.

The Bulldogs will play the remainder of their season on the road, starting with a double header in Greensboro, NC. In the afternoon of April 11 at 1 pm the Bulldogs will attack the Spartans from UNC Greensboro, then take on NC A&T in the nightcap beginning at 6pm. The Citadel's season will be complete the following day when they play the Wildcats of Davidson on April 12 at 2pm.

Wofford will head home to take on UNC Greensboro on Friday afternoon, April 4, at 3 pm.
