Woolfolk Gains Another Accolade

Apr. 21, 2003

Charleston, SC - Citadel freshman Warren Woolfolk has received second team All-Southern Conference honors this spring for his play on the tennis court. Woolfolk was among six players to earn the recognition during Wednesday night's 2003 SoCon Men's and Women's Tennis Honors Banquet at the Altman Athletic Center.

The Columbus, GA, product, posted a record of 16-9 during the regular season while going 9-2 in SoCon play at the No. 6 singles slot. Woolfolk finished his freshman campaign with a win over College of Charleston's Philipp Koller, 6-3, 6-1, one of the bright spots in the Bulldogs' 4-2 loss in the second round of the Southern Conference Championship. Concluding the season and playing in the No. 6 singles spot, Woolfolk has a 14 match win streak that he will carry to next season. He posted impressive wins over East Tennessee State's Francisco Diaz and Furman's Allen Simmons.

"Warren is a great young player and an even better young man, he certainly earned it," exclaimed head coach Toby Simpson. "He is a player who has improved significantly everyday on the court and we hope great things from him in his future."

The Bulldogs finished an impressive end of season run in the second round of the 2003 Southern Conference Men's Tennis Tournament with a loss to College of Charleston, 4-2. The Citadel tennis team will look to improve the conference record of 4-7 and 11-14 overall record next season with seven returning lettermen and five starters to help Woolfolk in the quest of another SoCon tennis title.
