Best Meet In Citadel History

April 6, 2003

Freshman twins Monesha and Montair Booker saw nothing less than third-place to help the women finish second overall at the Fifth Annual Jack In the Box Furman Invitational Track Meet located in Greenville, SC.

"We had our best meet in women's history," remarked Assistant Coach Kris Kut. "We are right where we want to be. We are on the upswing and getting ready to peak at the conference (meet). People have stepped-up and reacted like we asked after spring break."

Monesha Booker took first in the 400m with a personal best (1:00.81), while sister Montair placed third in the 100m and 200m. The duo did not stop there. Both ran in the record-breaking 4x400m relay that took second.

Freshman Alexis Gonzalez showed The Citadel coaches how valuable she can be. She took home the blue ribbon for the Bulldogs in the pole-vault at 9.00. Gonzalez also ran sprints for the first time as a Bulldog as the anchor on the new record holding 4x400 squad and placed in the 200m.

Kelly Pesterfield had a 15-06.00 long jump while Catrina Moore placed in the shot, discus, hammer, and javelin.

The Bulldogs hope to continue this upward turn as they travel to Columbia, SC Wednesday April 9 for the USC-State Championships.
