Citadel senior wrestler Vince Bartges earned Academic All-American honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Bartges, a senior from Goose Creek, SC just graduated with a 3.571 GPA in Business Administration and will be attending The Medical University of South Carolina in the fall.
Bartges, who was a co-captain on the 2002-2003 squad, finished with a 15-10 record this past season and a 38-35 record during his career. He has been a three-year lettermen and a two-year starter. This past year he finished second at the Keydet Invitational hosted by VMI, and fourth and the All-Academy Championship.
"We're really happy for Vince and his family for receiving this honor," commented head coach Rob Hjerling. "Vince is a great example of real student-athlete at The Citadel."
For the Bulldogs this is the third year in a row that they have had someone receive the honor of Academic All-American. John Gross received the honor in 2001, while Wayne Watts was tabbed in 2002.
