Charleston, SC - The Citadel tennis team and head coach Toby Simpson are proud to announce the signing of Derek Jose of London, England to their 2003 recruiting class. He is the first tennis player signed for the upcoming season.

"We are thrilled and excited about Derek coming to be a Bulldog," stated Coach Simpson. "Derek has a lot of good experience and will be looked upon to step in and play from the start."

Jose has been playing competitive tennis since age 10. He has competed in tournaments on all levels (regional, state, national and international). He has competed in both Junior and Senior National Championships in England and played ITF Tournaments in Saudi Arabia, Scotland, and England. Jose has also competed in some Men's Futures events in the UK in the last 18 months to further prepare him for his collegiate career.

Jose has been coached by Peter Fleming at The Queens Club in London, England. Mr. Fleming is the former doubles partner of John McEnroe. He is the son of Alexander and Mary Jose and has a sister, Colleen.
