Current members of The Citadel baseball team Chip Cannon, Jonathan Ellis, Ken Egleton, Chris Ard, Chris Altman and Brady Mashak were all named to 2003 summer all-star teams in their respective leagues.
In the Coastal Plains League, Cannon, who posted 12 home runs for The Citadel in 2003, is batting .294 with five homers and 22 runs batted in for Thomasville, while Ellis has posted a record of 5-0 with one complete game shutout and a 2.17 earned run average for the Hi-Toms. He has pitched 45.2 innings striking out 54 and walking only 11. Cannon is also 1-1 on the mound with an ERA of 2.00. In 18 innings of work, he has pitched a complete game shutout while only allowing four runs and striking out 12.
Egleton, who struck out a team-high 73 batters in 2003 for the Bulldogs, has a 2.70 ERA and a record of 4-2 in 33.1 innings of work for the Florence Redwolves. In six starts, he has one complete game shutout and 29 strikeouts. Egleton is also batting .239 with five doubles and six runs batted in.
On the Sanford Mainers of the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League, Ard, who posted a 27-game hit streak the second longest in Citadel history, has a batting average of .296 with 16 runs batted in and 13 runs scored. He has 32 hits in 108 at-bats, while also stealing five bases in six attempts.
In the Southern Collegiate Baseball League, Mashak has marked a .380 batting averaged and slugged two grand slams while posting 21 runs batted in for the Carolina Clippers. Altman is batting .368 on 25 hits and has scored 33 runs for the Asheville Redbirds. He has connected for seven extra base hits including on home run, while slugging .515.
