Citadel First Baseman Chip Cannon Makes Baseball America Top 10 List

Aug. 25, 2003

Charleston, SC - Citadel first baseman Chip Cannon, who played for the Thomasville Hi-Toms of the Coastal Plains summer college league, was named one of the top-10 professional prospects in the Coastal Plains League by Baseball America.

Cannon, a 6-5, 220-pound first/third baseman, was the Hi-Toms offensive player-of-the-year as he led the league in home runs (8) and also drove-in a team high 29 runs, while batting .291. This was the second consecutive year that Cannon was awarded this honor.

A starter on the CPL All-Star team, Cannon was rated the third highest prospect in the league. According to John Manuel of Baseball America, his size and strength make him the best power prospect in the league and helped him lead the league with eight homers.

A first baseman/pitcher for The Citadel, Cannon earned All-Southern Conference laurels this spring while batting .335 with 12 homers and 60 runs batted in.
