Charleston, SC -
Citadel coach Pat Dennis announced the 2003-04 basketball schedule that will include 27 games and will be highlighted by home games against national powers Georgetown and South Carolina in McAlister Field House.
"This is an extremely exciting schedule and one of the toughest in school history," Dennis stated. "We have home games against South Carolina, Georgetown, Army and Central Florida and that makes for some exciting basketball in the lowcountry."
This season marks the first time since 1997 that the Bulldogs will play to major college programs at home. That year, The Citadel took on the Tim Duncan-led Wake Forest Demon Deacons and in-state rival South Carolina.
"There are not many Division I mid-major basketball programs that can boast South Carolina and Georgetown at home in the same year," Dennis continued. "Our road schedule isn't any easier as we travel to Knoxville (TN) to take on Tennessee and continue through the rigors of the Southern Conference."
The Bulldogs' schedule is highlighted by 16 home games in McAlister Field House and trips to non-conference foes Tennessee and South Carolina State. The schedule includes games against schools from 10 different conferences, seven different states and the District of Columbia. The various conferences that will be represented include the Florida Sun Conference, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the Atlantic Sun, the Southeastern Conference, the Georgia/Alabama/Carolina Conference, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the Dixie Intercollegiate Conference, the Big East, Big South, Conference USA and the Southern Conference.
"The conference schedule will be as strong as ever," Dennis added. "The SoCon gets better every year and it has become one of the better Division I Mid-Major conferences in the country."
The Bulldogs open the season on November 10 as part of the annual "Meet the Bulldogs" Night in McAlister Field House with a start time of 6:00 pm slated.
