CSU Sweeps Citadel Tri-Match, Citadel Drops Two

Charleston, SC - Citadel volleyball played seven intense, but close scoring games, only to win one game in two matches in a tri-match against Navy and Charleston Southern, Saturday in McAlister Fieldhouse.

The first of the best-of-five matches against Charleston Southern ended in a three-game sweep by the Bucs, with Allyn Beam and Rebecca Miller leading the team with nine kills each. Tori Owens and Katie O'Riordan followed with seven and six kills respectively.

Leading the Bulldogs were Lindsey Hodge and Stephanie Farris with nine kills apiece. Audra Ritchie and Samantha Parisi both added seven kills.

In the second Bulldog match-up, The Citadel tied Navy 1-1 after defeating the Midshipmen in the second game of the match, but the Midshipmen finished strong ending the match with a 1-3 game record in their favor.

Leading the Midshipmen was Ashley VanHartesvelt with 17 kills, followed by Ashley Musser who racked up 25 assists, while contributing 11 kills. Both VanHartesvelt and Musser had eight digs and Beth McArthur and Katey Geary each had 10 kills.

Samantha Parisi and Stefanie Farris lead the Bulldogs with 12 and 10 kills respectively, while Audra Ritchie and Lindsey Hodge both contributed nine kills.

In the second match of the tri-match, Charleston Southern downed Navy three games to two in a five-game thriller.

The Bulldogs' next contest will be on Tuesday, September 2 as they travel to Orangeburg to take on South Carolina State.
