The 2003 Citadel football team will begin practice on Wednesday, August 6, at 3:30 pm in Johnson Hagood Stadium.
"The upperclassmen reported today and they look like they are in great condition and are ready to play," third year head coach Ellis Johnson stated. "The coaching staff is excited and ready to start. With the new NCAA guidelines, we will have to adjust a little because everyone is geared up and ready to work. We will have to adjust and make sure that we take advantage of the new rules."
The new NCAA legislation has changed the way football teams practice in the preseason and has forced coaches across the country to change their practice schedules.
"We are definitely going to be feeling our way through the new practice guidelines," Johnson added. "We have a good plan in place and the first couple of days will be a lot of implementation, while making sure we give the freshmen the right amount of attention."
The 2003 team is highlighted by preseason All-Southern Conference selections Scooter Johnson, Nehemiah Broughton and Travis Zobel. Coach Johnson's squad also returns 17 starters from last year's team and has one of the largest recruiting classes in school history.
The Citadel opens its' 2003 tilt against Charleston Southern on August 30th at 3:30 pm.
