Davidson Defeats Citadel 3-1

Charleston, SC - The Citadel played four intense games before its largest home crowd of the season only to be defeated 3-1 in a volleyball match-up against Davidson Friday night in McAlister Field House.

A total of 257 attendees cheered the Bulldogs on as they defeated the Wildcats in the second game and forced Davidson to fight for the win in the third and fourth games only being defeated by a couple of points.

Leading the Citadel was senior middle blocker Lindsey Hodge who ended the night with 17 kills, two service aces and two solo blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Stefanie Farris contributed 13 kills and five digs and junior middle blocker Audra Ritchie added 12 kills, three digs and four solo blocks.

"I'm proud of the way the girls played tonight," coach Wendy Anderson said. "The games were close. They showed a lot of intensity and effort, but just couldn't finish with the win."

Senior middle blocker Latisha Chapman was the Citadel's biggest threat, dominating the Wildcats with a total of 19 kills, four service aces and two solo blocks. Junior outside hitter Meredith Lorenz added 17 kills and freshman opposite Liz Williamson added 11 kills and three solo blocks.

The Citadel will travel to Greenville on Friday, October 3 to take on Furman. Game time is 7 p.m.
