Chattanooga Surges Past The Citadel, 73-49

Jan. 17, 2004

Charleston, SC - Chattanooga outscored The Citadel 41-18 in the second half and senior guard Jason Rogan scored 25 points en route to a 73-49 Moc victory in Southern Conference basketball action Saturday afternoon in McAlister Field House.

"This was a good win for us. We struggled some defensively in the first half," Chattanooga head coach Jeff Lebo stated. "We made some adjustments at halftime and really pressed defensively to get The Citadel out of rhythm."

In a tale of two halves defensively, Chattanooga (10-6, 3-2 SoCon) allowed the Bulldogs to shoot a sizzling 59.1 percent from the floor in the first half and then got their act together. The Mocs stymied The Citadel offense in the second half and held it to a mere 18 points on 13.8-percent shooting from the floor.

Chattanooga shot the ball extremely well as they connected on 23-of-49 field goals for the game. In addition to Rogan scoring in double-figures, senior forward Ashley Champion chimed in with 18 points, and junior forward Chris Brown added 10 points. "We played well in the first half and didn't turn the ball over a lot," Citadel head coach Pat Dennis stated. "In the second half they turned the heat up on their press and forced us into their type of game."

The Citadel (4-11, 0-4 SoCon) was led offensively by sophomore guard Dante Terry who scored 16 points on the game. Sophomore point guard Kevin Hammack added nine points, five steals and three assists in the losing effort. Freshman forward J'mel Everhart continued his presence on the glass as he led the team with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Citadel will remain at home as they take on Furman at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 19th, while Chattanooga continues its road swing through the Lowcountry with a game against the College of Charleston on the same day.
