Box Score

Charleston, SC - Senior forward Maleye Ndoye scored 27 points to lead Furman past The Citadel, 76-61, in Southern Conference basketball action Monday night in McAlister Field House.

"Maleye really stepped up and led us all night," Furman head coach Larry Davis stated. "He hit big shots when we needed them. This was a good win for our program over a solid Bulldog team."

Furman (9-7, 1-4 SoCon) jumped out to an early 15-point lead at the 13:32 mark as freshman forward Robby Bostain knocked down a free throw to pushed the Paladin lead to 21-6.

The Citadel (4-12, 0-5 SoCon) fought right back and drew the score to 27-26 thanks to a 20-6 run that was capped off by a fast break lay-up from sophomore point guard Kevin Hammack. Furman ended the first half with a 35-31 advantage thanks to a jumper from sophomore guard Tony Carter. The Paladins never looked back coming out of the intermission and led by as many as 18 in the second. Ndoye added 14 second half points to capture Furman's first SoCon victory of 2004.

"Don't take anything away from Furman. They played extremely well tonight and Ndoye is a tremendous player," Citadel head coach Pat Dennis stated. "We got tired after a strong first half because of our lack of depth on our bench. Overall we played very well for 20 minutes and we will just have to keep getting better every game."

Ndoye was one of four Paladins in double figures as Carter added 15 points, while freshmen Moussa Diagne and Eric Webb each added 10 points. Senior forward Nick Sanders posted a game-high 11 rebounds for Furman.

Senior forward Max Mombollet who scored 17 points led the Citadel offensively. Hammack and fellow sophomore guard Dante Terry scored 14 and 11 respectively. Freshman forward J'mel Everhart posted seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.

The Citadel returns to action on Saturday, January 24th at 7:00 pm as they travel to take on SoCon North foe UNC-Greensboro. Furman returns home to take on Wofford at 1:00 pm in Timmons Arena on the same day.
