Box Score

Charleston, SC - Sophomore guard Dante Terry scored 18 points and grabbed three rebounds to lead The Citadel past Army, 82-58, in collegiate basketball action Friday afternoon in McAlister Field House.

The Citadel (4-8) snapped a two-game losing streak without their head coach Pat Dennis who was suspended for the game following an ejection against High Point on December 30th.

"Our coaches and players did a great job today according to what I heard on the radio," Dennis stated. "This is a very big win for our program going into the bulk of the conference schedule."

The Bulldogs went on a 45-9 scoring run at the end of the first half and in to the second to put Army away. The run was started by a lay-up by senior forward Max Mombollet at the 6:48 mark of the first half and was ended by three-pointer by senior guard Erick Wilson with 8:48 remaining in the game to push advantage 72-40. Four three-pointers from Wilson highlighted the run along with 12 points from freshman forward J'mel Everhart. "Coach Dennis did a great job getting the team prepared for the game and the players did the rest," Citadel assistant coach Chris Gerlufsen stated. "We did a great job on the defensive end and really shot the lights out."

Gerlufsen, a third-year assistant under Dennis took over the reigns for the game and guided the Bulldogs to their first victory over a Division I opponent this season. Terry was just one of four players to score in double-figures for the Bulldogs as Everhart added 16, Wilson poured in 15 off of five three-pointers and Mombollet chimed in with 13 points.

Army (3-7) was led by forward Colin Harris who scored 20 points and grabbed two rebounds. Joining Harris in double-figures was guard Matt Bell who scored 14 points and converted on both of his three point attempts.

The Citadel capitalized off of 19 Black Knight turnovers and turned them into 29 points, while only turning the ball over a season-low five times during the contest.

The Citadel returns to action on Tuesday, January 6th as they travel to Davidson, NC to take on SoCon South division foe Davidson at 7:00 pm. Army returns home to take on Farleigh Dickinson at 3:00 pm on January 4th.
