Rifle Team Places Second in NCAA, Third in SEARC

Birmingham, AL - The Citadel rifle team took second and third places this past weekend at a match held in Birmingham, AL. The Bulldogs have not placed lower than third all season.

"We did well considering several of our top shooters could not travel this past weekend," remarked head coach Bill Smith.

The Bulldogs participated in two matches over Saturday and Sunday. The Citadel took second place in the NCAA match with an overall score of 2205 and getting 67 center shots. Birmingham Southern clenched first, shooting a 2273 and hitting 95 centers.

In the Bulldogs' second SEARC match of the season, the team finished third behind Birmingham Southern and North Georgia College. The Citadel completed the match with a team score of 2205, close behind North Georgia's 2220 mark. Birmingham Southern again took the top spot shooting a 2293.

Junior Amara Atella led the individual scoring for The Citadel with a 570. Sophomore Vanessa Swan and junior Evan Rishel were the second and third top shooters with a 556 and 548, respectively.

The Citadel rifle team will next travel to Raleigh, NC to compete in their third SEARC match of the season hosted by North Carolina State University November 13-14.
