Charleston, S.C. - Junior Tirza Ridgely opened the scoring within the first minute for Chattanooga as the Lady Mocs defeated The Citadel 5-0 Sunday afternoon at WLI Field.

"We played hard, but unfortunately the game did not go our way," said head coach Megan Hjerling. "We just have to put this one behind us and prepare for Wednesday's game."

Sophomore Melyna Valdez took control early and crossed the ball in front of The Citadel goal where Ridgely notched a point with a header. In the 33rd minute, Freshman Sarah Howell tallied an unassisted goal for the Lady Mocs making it 2-0. Sophomore Maya Peel then added to the score after picking up a long ball off the foot of Ridgely.

Chattanooga upped its advantage at the 60:52 mark when Peel took the ball from midfield and charged to the goal and beat junior goalkeeper Angie Ellenwood to make the score 4-0. Junior Susan Ward then capped off the scoring in the 82nd minute after receiving a pass off the foot of Jennifer Duggan.

The Dogs got off 10 shots with freshman Maggie Bryan and junior Lauren Merchant picking up the only shots on goal. Ellenwood tallied nine saves in the contest.

The Bulldogs will be back between the pipes to take on conference rival Georgia Southern Wednesday, October 6 at 2pm at WLI Field. Chattanooga will host Furman Friday night for their next match up.
