Senior setter Katie Livingston set an all-time single match assist high for The Citadel with 64 which propelled her into the top spot on the all-time single season assist chart as well with 1009 as the Bulldogs overcame a game one loss and rallied back from deficits to win games two and four to beat Davidson 3-1 (28-30, 30-22, 30-24, 33-31) in Southern Conference volleyball action Sunday afternoon in McAlister Field House.
The Citadel (12-16, 3-10 SoCon) received 16 kills each from senior middle blocker Audra Ritchie, junior outside hitter Samantha Parisi and junior middle blocker Marina Daniel while junior outside hitter Stefanie Farris added 15 kills for the Cadets. Parisi and Daniel also added three service aces each for The Citadel. Defensively Daniel posted a match high eight blocks including five solos and the Bulldogs tallied 59 digs 16 of which were provided by junior libero Melissa Fridinger.
"It's great to see our girls get over the hump and finish a match, especially in the conference," said head coach Wendy Anderson. "We really turned our game play up a notch today."
Davidson (9-20, 6-7 SoCon) received a match high 26 kills from sophomore middle blocker Liz Williamson while freshman outside hitter Katie Pierucci added 17 kills. Pierucci and junior outside hitter Erin Balak dished out 27 and 24 assists respectively for the Wildcats while freshman outside hitter Lindsey Woeste recorded three solo blocks and senior libero Tamara Gallen had 16 digs.
The Citadel travels to the upstate next weekend to take on Furman at 7:00 pm on Friday and Wofford at 2:00 pm on Saturday. Davidson will return home to face Georgia Southern on Saturday.
