The Citadel-Charleston Southern Game Cancelled

Nov. 1, 2004

Charleston, SC - The Citadel-Charleston Southern football game originally scheduled for September 4, which was postponed by Hurricane Francis, has been cancelled according to Citadel Director of Athletics Les Robinson, Monday afternoon.

"Both schools really wanted to play the game," Robinson stated. "We both had dates that we wanted to play the game but unfortunately we could get not get one that matched for both schools.

"The dates we looked at were in late November and early December, but due to each school's final exam schedule and Thanksgiving the timing could not be worked out," Robinson continued.

The Citadel-Charleston Southern football series that started in 2002 was slated for its third year this past September. The Citadel leads the series 2-0 following a 64-10 victory in August of 2003.

"We are disappointed that the game couldn't be worked out," Citadel head coach John Zernhelt stated. "We made every attempt to make the game happen, yet we are excited to renew the series next season."

The Bulldogs and the Bucs are scheduled to renew the series in the first week of the September 2005. The Citadel has three games remaining in its 2004 tilt as they host Chattanooga this upcoming Saturday, travel to Elon on November 13 and return home to host Western Carolina on November 20. Information regarding refunds for the Charleston Southern game will be forthcoming.
