Cross Country Records Personal Best Times in NCAA Regional

Nov. 15, 2004

Greenville, NC - Sophomore Laura Hewston ran the fastest 6K time in The Citadel's history in 23:55 as she represented the women at the 2004 Cross Country NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by East Carolina University Saturday morning. Hewston and senior Nick Gastley competed against runners from all Div I teams in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky.

"This was a good experience for her to race against the best runners in the Southeast," remarked assistant cross country coach Brian Johnson. "She had an excellent cross country season and we expect great things from her on the track this year."

Gastley represented the men in the NCAA Regional. His time of 34:39 tied his personal best for the 10K race.

"Although Nick would have liked to finish the cross country season with a little better race, he had a very good fall campaign," commented Johnson. "He was able to stay healthy the entire season and run as our top runner in 6 of our 7 races. We look to continue to lead the distance runners to success on the track this winter and spring."

Three Chattanooga runners will represent the Southern Conference in the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, Monday, November 22 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terra Haute, Indiana.

The Bulldogs will travel to Clemson, SC on Friday, December 3 to open the 2004-2005 track and field season at the Clemson Invitational.
