SoCon football coaches name all-SoCon team

Spartanburg, SC - The Southern Conference football coaches today named their 2004 All-Southern Conference football team. Conference co-champion Georgia Southern led the way with 17 total selections and nine first team picks.

Georgia Southern placed four players on the offensive first team including tackle Albert Turner, guard Chad Motte, running back Jermaine Austin and placekicker Jonathan Dudley. On defense, the Eagles were represented by tackle Eric Hadley, linebackers Derrick Butler and James Young, defensive back Terence McBride and punter Dan Jordan.

Two players were unanimous picks: Appalachian State wide receiver DaVon Fowlkes and Georgia Southern defensive back James Young.

A total of six players repeated on the Coaches first team from 2003: Chattanooga wide receiver Alonzo Nix, Wofford guard Eric Deutsch, Elon center Brandon Mason, Georgia Southern fullback Jermaine Austin, Georgia Southern linebacker Derrick Butler as well as Mountaineer return specialist DaVon Fowlkes. Fowlkes earned first team honors at return specialist from the coaches for the third straight season.
