Junior Travis Piccard placed second in the 157-pound weight class and senior Keith Clifton placed third at 184 to lead The Citadel to a fifth place finish in a field of 14 at the Beast of the East wrestling tournament at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, DE over the weekend.
The Bulldogs tallied 81.5 points in the effort that saw five cadets place in the top six in their weight classes. In addition to Piccard and Clifton, senior Ryan McClester (125) and sophomore Levi Duyn (149) placed fourth, while senior Sean Markey (141) took sixth.
Northwestern won the tournament with 162.5 points, while SoCon foe Appalachian State placed ninth with 52 points.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on December 29 and 30 when they head to Greensboro, NC to take part in the Southern Scuffle at UNC Greensboro's Fleming Gym.
