The Citadel Promotes Toby Strange To Offensive Coordinator

Charleston, SC - Citadel head football coach John Zernhelt announced Monday afternoon that Toby Strange had been promoted to Offensive Coordinator for the 2004 football season.

"Toby is one of the brightest young coaches I have had the privilege of working with during my career," Zernhelt stated. "As a young coach he has had the opportunity to work on both offense and defense during his career and that is why he is such a good fit for our offensive coordinator position."

Strange, will continue his duties as quarterbacks coach for the upcoming season. As the quarterbacks coach, Strange helped former Bulldog QB Willie Simmons to first team All- Southern Conference status in only one year. Before arriving at The Citadel in 2003, Strange served as a graduate assistant with LSU and worked directly with offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher. Strange also worked at the State University of West Georgia (1999-2002) in a variety of roles ranging from wide receivers to defensive backs coach and also served as the passing game coordinator at Washington & Lee (1998-1999).

Strange, a 1998 graduate of the State University of West Georgia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education during his undergraduate years. He then went on to earn a Masters of Science in Health and Physical Education at the State University of West Georgia in 2002.

During his playing days at his alma mater, he earned the team's Most Valuable Player award in 1996, All-South region honors in 1996 and 1997, and was tabbed Gulf South Conference Player-of-the-Year and All American by The Football Gazette in 1997.
