Charleston, SC - The Citadel's tennis team lost a hard-fought match to South Carolina State 4-3 today at the Earle Tennis Center. The Cadets won the doubles point and two singles matches but SC State's Jiri Vasicek fought off a late third set rally by Warren Woolfolk in the No. 2 singles match (7-5, 6-7, 6-3) to seal the victory for SCSU.

In the other singles matches The Citadel's Matt Stubbs handled Dragen Bisercic, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 1 match. In the No. 3 pairing SC State's Slavko Radman downed John Williams, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. In the No. 4 match up Andrew Mawire defeated The Citadel's Carl Hocker, 7-6, 7-6. In the No. 5 grouping SC State's Rodrigo Lama beat David Lara, 6-1, 6-3, while The Citadel's Robert Haynie took care of Tom Downs, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 contest. The Citadel took the doubles point with Matt Stubbs and Carl Hocker defeating Andrew Mawire and Dragen Bisercic 8-6 in the No. 2 contest, while Robert Haynie and John Williams beat Rodrigo Lama and Tom Downs in a tiebreaker with a score of 9-8 (9-7). South Carolina State's lone doubles victory was in the No. 1 match as Jiri Vasicek and Slavko Radman outscored Warren Woolfolk and David Lara, 8-2.

With this loss The Citadel falls to 0-3 while South Carolina State improves to 2-0. The Citadel will face the Mercer University Bears Tomorrow at the Earle Tennis Center. That match was originally scheduled for 1 pm but has been moved up to a 12 noon start time.
