Box Score

Honolulu, HI - Chris Campos homered to left field in the eighth driving in all three Oregon State runs as he led the No. 20 Beavers over The Citadel 3-2 in game seven of the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament Friday afternoon in Les Murakami Stadium.

After doubling to left field to start the game, Jon Aughey gave The Citadel (4-6) a 1-0 lead as he scored on Josh Stackley's RBI-single to center. After taking a strike, Stackley ripped the 0-1 pitch plating Aughey from third after he had advanced to third on a fly ball to center off the bat of Matt Matulia. The first-inning RBI was the sixth of the tournament for Stackley. The Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the fifth with Andy Phillips, who reached on an infield single, on third with one out, but Matt Covington got picked off first for the second out of the inning as he was attempting to steal. After a base on balls was issued to Aughey, Matulia flew out to center to end the inning with the score remaining 1-0 in favor of The Citadel.

Chip Cannon gave The Citadel a 2-0 lead after six innings as he parked a solo home run of the season over the center field fence. The one-run blast to center was Cannon's second of the season and his 25th of his career. He is currently tied with Garrick Haltiwanger in fourth place on the Bulldogs' all-time home run chart with 25 career dingers.

The Beavers () took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the eighth on a three-run homer off the bat of Chris Campos, his second of the season. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Jacoby Ellsbury moved to third on a double by Mike Lissman and was plated along with Lissman on the Campos homer. OSU looked to add to their lead as they loaded the bases, but Citadel closer Shannon Sprouse got Paul Ritchie to line out to end the Beaver rally and the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, The Citadel loaded the bases with one out, but Andy Phillips grounded into an inning ending double play. After walking to load the bases, Chris Ard was forced at second and Phillips was called out on a runner's interference ruling at second base. The Beavers escaped the bases loaded rally without giving up a run and holding their 3-2 lead.

Kevin Gunderson (4-0) gets the victory as he pitched one inning in relief of Beaver starter Jake Postlewait, while Dallas Buck earned his fifth save of the season. Sprouse (1-1) took the loss for The Citadel as he gave up the Campos three-run homer in the eighth. Ellis, the Bulldog starter, was charged with two of the three runs surrendered in the eighth.

Aughey was the key to the Bulldogs' offense with two hits, two walks and on run scored. Stackley, Cannon, Phillips and Covington all contributed hits, while Cannon and Stackley had the two Citadel runs batted in.

The Citadel will face the loser of the Hawaii-Chicago State game in the consolation game which is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, while Oregon State will be pitted in the championship game against the winner of the Hawaii-Chicago State contest at 6:35.
