Honolulu, HI -
First baseman Chip Cannon, outfielder Josh Stackley and pitcher Jonathan Ellis were all named to the 2004 First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament All-Tournament Team. The three Bulldogs all excelled during the five-game tournament hosted by the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
Cannon, who only batted .211 during the week, drove-in seven runs on four hits. All four of his hits were for extra bases, including a game-winning bases loaded three-run double in the bottom of the ninth in The Citadel's 7-6 victory over No. 20 Oregon State. Two of his other extra base hits included a solo homer in the Bulldogs' 3-2 loss to the Beavers and a two-run blast against Chicago State in the final game of the tournament, which the Dogs won 11-3. Cannon also tallied seven runs batted in during the tournament.
Stackley was the go to man for the Bulldogs during the tournament. He drove-in nine runs on six hits, five of which were for extra bases. He tallied three doubles and two triples, including a bases load triple that brought The Citadel to within one of Hawaii 4-3. Stackley hit .316 on the week and also scored two runs.
Ellis pitched in The Citadel's 3-2 loss to Oregon State, but left the game with a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning. In his 7.1 innings of work against the no. 20 Beavers, Ellis scattered five hits, while striking out nine. He was responsible for two of the three runs that scored on the three-run homer that reliever Shannon Sprouse surrendered late in the eighth inning. OSU only batted .208 against him, while only seeing 11 runners reach base.
Hawaii, the tournament champion after beating Oregon State 7-3, had seven members of its Rainbow team make the squad including the tournament's most outstanding player Rocky Russo and most outstanding pitcher Ricky Bauer.
Oregon State tied The Citadel with three Beavers on the all-tournament team, while Chicago State, which did not win a game while in Hawaii, did not have anyone selected to the team.
