The Furman women's golf team holds a 14 shot lead after 36 holes of play of the 2004
Southern Conference Women's Golf Championships, being played at the par-71 6,162-yard Starmount Forest Country Club.
Furman teammates Sarah Johnston and Jenny Suh are tied atop the individual leaderboard with a two-day total of 146 (+4). Suh fired the lowest round of the day at two-over-par 73 while Johnston used consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes to card a four-over-par 75. Ashley Hovda from Western Carolina and Theresa Paik of Furman are tied for third at 150. UNC Greensboro's Polly Willett and Sammy Sue Wilson of Elon hold a share of fifth at 154. The Lady Paladins, who are after their tenth SoCon crown, recorded a second round 308 for a 36 hole total of 605.
Western Carolina is second at 619, followed by Elon, competing in their first ever SoCon tournament, in third place at 635. The host school, UNC Greensboro is fourth at 637. College of Charleston is fifth at 640, followed by East Tennessee State (645) in sixth, and Appalachian State (680) in seventh. The Citadel (691) and Wofford (693) round out the field.
