Spartanburg, SC -
The Southern Conference announced the pairings for the 2004 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament sponsored by the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Growers and The National Peanut Board with The Citadel earning the number three seed.
This season marks the 15th consecutive season that the tournament has been held in Charleston. Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park will be the site of the 2004 championship. Play begins at 10 am on Wednesday, May 26. The championship game is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 29.
The Bulldogs, who finished the season with an overall record of 33-25 and 21-9 in SoCon play, concluded the season in a second-place tie with Georgia Southern, but the Eagles drew the two seed in the tournament by virtue of its three-game regular season sweep of the Bulldogs.
With the three seed, The Citadel will take on the sixth seeded East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the opening round of the tournament. The Bulldogs and Bucs are slated to play at 7:30 pm in game four of the first day of play.
College of Charleston locked up the number one seed with the regular season championship and will face 2003 tournament champion Western Carolina, who is seeded eighth. The two seed GSU will play seventh seeded Davidson, while Elon and UNC Greensboro will match up in the four-five game.
