Box Score

Charleston, SC - The Citadel pounded out 11 hits and scored 10 runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-2 win over Davidson in game eight of the 2004 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament sponsored by the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Growers and the National Peanut Board.

Citadel starter Ken Egleton (8-2) tossed the Bulldogs' second complete game in as many days, allowing just two runs on six hits.

The third-seeded Bulldogs (35-25) will face No. 8 seed Western Carolina in the winner's bracket final Friday at 4:30 p.m. No. 7 seed Davidson (20-32) drops to the loser's bracket and will take on No. 1 seed College of Charleston in a 1 p.m. elimination game Friday. Matt Covington, Chip Cannon, Mark Egleton, and Andy Phillips all collected two hits for the Bulldogs.

The Citadel broke open the contest early with a seven-run second inning. Andy Phillips started the scoring with a bases-loaded single that brought Chip Cannon home from third. The biggest blow of the inning came when the next batter, Will Coker, singled home two runners. When the dust settled, 11 Citadel hitters had come to bat and seven scored.

The Citadel increased its lead by scoring three more runs in the third inning. Matt Covington and Chris Ard each had an RBI, and a third run scored thanks to one of the Wildcats' four fielding errors, giving the Bulldogs a 10-0 advantage.

The first of Davidson's two runs came in the sixth inning when Ronnie Shore and Eli Benefield strung together back-to-back doubles to bring Davidson to within 10-1. The Wildcats also added a single run in the eighth.

Davidson starter Andy Carter (4-6) had a rough outing, giving up 10 hits and 10 runs, nine of which were earned, in just two and one-third innings pitched.
