SKILLMAN, N.J. - Suzanne Campbell, the first woman to play golf for The Citadel Military College of South Carolina, has been named the winner of the seventh annual CGF Graduate Scholarship Awards, it was announced today by the College Golf Foundation (CGF).

When Suzanne Campbell arrived on campus in one of the first classes of women at The Citadel, it was expected that she was going to face challenges every day. She decided to take on those challenges with one of her own, and started the school's first female golf team. The first two years, traveling as an individual to compete in tournaments, wasn't easy. But by the end of her junior year, she helped captain The Citadel to a seventh place finish in the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championships, while being named to the Division I All-American Scholar Team.

Campbell will graduate this May with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. A four-year letter winner and member of the dean's list, she has maintained a 3.77 grade point average and is a regular on the Southern Conference Honor Roll.

She will attend law school following her graduation, and plans to "incorporate the integrity, responsibility, drive and leadership that [she] has learned and applied during her golf career and at The Citadel to her professional career and the rest of her life."

The CGF Graduate Scholarship Award is available to graduating varsity college golfers who plan to continue their education in accredited post-graduate programs. Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship award upon matriculation into an accredited graduate program.
