In the ninth, The Citadel added an insurance run on a run batted in off the bat of Matulia. Sophomore designated hitter Mark Egleton raced home on an error by the Chanticleer shortstop that allowed Matulia to reach first safely.

Ellis (12-3) had a no-hitter going through six, but gave up back to back hits to lose the no-no. He fanned 13, a new career high, and walked only four. Ellis has now pitched four straight complete games in a row.

Coastal starter Steven Carter (12-3) took the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings of work.
