Egleton and Ellis Named to All-Regional Squad

June 7, 2004

Columbia, SC - Designated hitter Mark Egleton and starting pitcher Jonathan Ellis were named to the Columbia All-Regional Squad for their outstanding performances during the Columbia Regional this past weekend.

Egleton, a sophomore from Florence, SC and Wilson High School, batted .500 thanks to a 5-for-10 effort with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Of Egleton's five hits two were for extra bases, including a double and his fifth homer of the season in Friday's 12-4 loss to South Carolina. He also recorded one base on balls, while tallying two sacrifices, one of which was a sacrifice fly. His.900 slugging mark led the Bulldogs in the Regionals.

Ellis, a junior from Charleston and St. Andrews High School, pitched a complete game in the Bulldogs' 10-1 victory over the Chanticleers. He allowed one run on six hits and five walks. Ellis fanned 13 batters setting a new career high, while also lowering his Southern Conference best earned run average to 2.18.

The complete game performance for Ellis was his fourth in a row and tied him for the Bulldog single-season record of nine, which was held by Jeff Barkley who tossed nine in 1981. Ellis, who also holds the single-season innings pitched mark, increased his season total to 136.1 innings of work.
